Missing dangerous problems

Without early detection, minor electrical faults or hydraulic fluid leaks become catastrophic failures, causing risks to safety and economic consequences across the operation. When 90% of all nacelle fires result in total loss of the turbine, you can't afford to miss the early signs.

The threat of arc flashes

Working on wind turbines, technicians confront unseen, lethal arc flashes. One misstep can trigger intense heat, blinding light and severe injury, making every routine maintenance and repair a high-stakes battle against electricity itself.

Battling hostile working conditions

Sending crews into nacelles for maintenance or diagnostics is costly and time-consuming, and that’s before you consider the dangers involved. With unpredictable weather, inhospitable locations and uncertain maintenance requirements raising the stakes, the sector is full of stories of fires and falls endangering those who put themselves in harm’s way.

The cost of unwanted downtime

Diagnosing and fixing electrical faults wastes time, manpower and money. Without clarity on what the problem definitively is, teams expend massive effort chasing issues, driving up costs and leaving resources drained long before the problem is truly solved.

How the TC-90™ changes the game

Protecting people, driving efficiency

Using the TC-90™ to monitor turbines cuts the number of climbs by up to 50%, with early detection enabling proactive maintenance. The camera installs quickly and easily, with no damage or alterations to enclosure doors. With hundreds of turbines to inspect, why climb individually when you can monitor them all at once in real time?

Keeping your team safe

By addressing faults long before they cause catastrophic damage, the dangers of arc flashes and hostile working conditions plummet. Working directly inside the enclosure, with a holistic optical and thermal view of every component, wire, nut and bolt on the panel, the compact infrared/optical TC-90™ cameras monitor your electronics under full loads.

Visibility that powers control

If the TC-90™ is the eyes on the high-value assets in your network, then our AI-driven InfraSpec™ software is the brain. With email alerts containing images and information, there is no need for screen-watching, as our stand-alone NVR keeps unlimited records of all live streams or can be tied directly into any real-time data management system without us touching your network and SCADA systems.

Puget sound energy

Wind turbine at sea
Puget Sound Energy’s windfarm faced the challenge of recurring fires and arc blasts every few months causing massive downtime and costly repairs.  Even after exhausting every traditional method of diagnostics, the root cause remained elusive. SYTIS’ TC-90™ camera system was ultimately deployed and provided the answers needed to find and fix the issues permanently.

The TC-90™ system enabled real-time fault detection, reducing downtime, improving safety and boosting operational efficiency. In recognition of this groundbreaking partnership, Ryan Severe and Puget Sound Energy earned recognition as a finalist of the National Safety Council’s Green Cross Award for Safety Innovation and shortlisting for RenewableUK’s 2025 Global Offshore Wind Health, Safety and Wellbeing Award.
PSE’s challenge
Infrared technology has long been accepted as a best-in-class procedure for detecting early-stage electrical anomalies that precede electrical arcs and fires. Manual inspections are not permitted with traditional handheld infrared cameras in a nacelle while under power.  Puget Sound Energy needed an effective, proactive approach to overcome the challenges they faced that would protect both people and infrastructure.
How it was tackled
Deployment of the SYTIS TC-90™ cameras paired with the InfraSpec™ software were used to monitor the assets in real-time. Automated alerts and real time imaging replaced the guesswork associated with working on cold, de-energized panels with multimeters. Engineers and technicians were able to quickly diagnose early-stage anomalies and pinpoint their origins. This improved both worker safety and efficiency, and sharing these findings with the OEM proved to be crucial to finding lasting solutions.
The impact
Real-time monitoring reduced downtime, accelerated fault response and cut inspection costs. Engineers gained actionable insights, enhancing reliability, efficiency and safety, while freeing staff from resource-intensive, repetitive manual inspections. Most important of all, there was a tangible improvement in personnel safety for Ryan’s team.
The recognition
Ryan Severe and Puget Sound Energy are finalists in the National Safety Council’s Green Cross Award for Safety Innovation, recognising their forward-thinking application of continuous infrared monitoring to protect personnel and critical infrastructure, as well as being shortlisted for RenewableUK’s 2025 Global Offshore Wind Health, Safety & Wellbeing Award.
